5 Things You Shouldn’t Do with Your Teeth

1. Don’t use your teeth as tools.

When sugar combines with your saliva and bacteria in your mouth, it makes plaque acidic. As it sits on your teeth, it will slowly eat away at your enamel. It’s best to have sugar in moderation. If you can’t ignore your sweet tooth, brush your teeth well afterward.

4. Don’t forget to brush your teeth twice a day.

Only 70% of Americans brush their teeth twice a day. If you’re among those who skip brushing before bed, you’re letting harmful bacteria accumulate in your mouth overnight. This can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath. Although you might be tired after a long day, commit to brushing your teeth before heading to bed.

5. Don’t smoke or use tobacco.

Tobacco products are known to cause several dental issues, like stains, decay, and gum disease, but those aren’t the only concerns. Smoking increases your risk of oral cancer by as much as 10 times when compared to nonsmokers. You can protect your smile and your health by kicking the habit.
