One reason is that they tend to eat more carbohydrates than those who aren\u2019t pregnant. Additionally, morning sickness increases your mouth\u2019s exposure to acid, which can erode your tooth enamel and make your smile more susceptible to decay. The hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy can also increase the natural acidity in your mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Issue #2: Pregnancy Gingivitis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hormonal shifts may also lead to pregnancy gingivitis, which is an infection of the gums that causes inflammation, swelling, redness, tenderness, and bleeding when brushing or flossing. Left untreated, it can develop into a more severe form of gum disease called periodontitis.
